About the event

Ever wondered what it’s like to work within the UN system? How to launch a career at the UN? Or what happens to the organization when it faces financial pressure and waning international trust? 🤔

To mark UN Day, the United Nations Association of Norway, UN Students, and UNICEF invite you to an event featuring expert insights, pizza, and a debate on Norway’s UN policy.

First up are Kai Eide—a former UN envoy to locations including Afghanistan and Kosovo—and Kathrine Olsen Flaate, who advanced from a Norwegian Junior Professional Officer (JPO) role to a global position at UNICEF. Together, they share firsthand experiences from within the UN: how the system works in practice, what makes the work meaningful, the challenges the UN faces today, and the opportunities available to young people aspiring to an international career.

Next, we bring together young politicians for a debate on the future of Norway’s UN policy. How should Norway engage with the UN in an era marked by war, debates over foreign aid, and international turmoil? What role should the UN play in Norwegian foreign and development policy in the years ahead?

Guiding us through the evening is comedian Hani Hussein, who has previously served as an advisor to the Somali delegation to the UN in New York.
